Shine a Light Alabama is a community-based effort of remembrance, resilience, and healing from losses experienced during the pandemic.
A project developed by Alabama Forward, Shine a Light Alabama was developed to be a resource for Alabamians searching for support as they navigate pandemic-related loss, grief, and healing.
Goals of Shine a Light Alabama:
– To unite neighborhoods, communities, and cities in a simple, but direct action to pause and honor lives lost, signaling to people in grief that their pain is acknowledged, their loss is visible, and people care.
– To make visible those who are experiencing grief and loss so people can take small steps (in simple, safe, and thoughtful ways) to acknowledge and honor those lost and to care for grieving people.
– To initiate and facilitate safe, shared action as part of the critical work of cultivating empathy and community connection.
